People are storytellers by nature. We tell and share stories all the time among colleagues, among family members, among friends. Stories about what happened, or how we look at situations, etc. We, as human beings, ‘invented’ stories

  • to survive,
  • to share knowledge,
  • to inspire,
  • to grow.

Through stories we give sense and meaning to our experiences in life. Stories help us to understand on a deeper level, what is happing to us and why. We make stories out of everything around us. Usually we do this unconsciously.

But being the hero of your own story means that it is your choice what sense you give to a situation. The stories you carry with you are therefore meaningful and and they make sense to you. It matters what you tell yourself as an organisation, as a team and as an individual.

There  is no such thing as an innocent story. Stories possess enormous power. The more you  are aware of the stories and storylines you are part of, the more you are the hero of them and feel that way.

To become more balanced in life you need to know what stories you are living. Are they your own? Are the congruent with who you really are and want to be? Are the empowering you or holding you back to live your full potential?

Below you find several possibilities of interventions I offer to become more balanced. So your employees, your team and/or your organisation benefits from wisdom these stories shared, contain, in stead of that these make you all feel like being stuck in the organisational mud.

Most organizations are not led by a director or an MT, who determine the course…
No, most organizations are guided by the stories shared among all employees. The stories about “This is just how we do things here,” or “we’ve tried that before.” Two examples of organizational stories that have killed many innovative ideas or change processes.

Narrative organizational management means that you lead the organization based on the inner wisdom and patterns that the stories shared contain.

As a programm or project leader I’ll collect together with the employees in your organisation, the stories that live your company. We dive together into them to discover the wisdom that is needed to make the organisation grow. But we also expose the patterns that are holding your employees and teams back from learning and growing.

Based on all these insights you, as a leader, are able to make powerful decisions and make the impact the world needs. In this way, you allow the organization to grow and flourish from the inside and from the outside. Here’s to a bright future!

What is your team identity?

Discover who you really are as a team

In each team, the different stories that live within each employee come together. And all these stories together form the identity of the team. Who you really are and why you do what you do (or don’t 😉).

The official stories, such as the corporate story or the core values, must be propagated. But each team member has his or her own versions and perspectives on what is being told officially. Personal stories about experiences of previous employers, for example, but also stories of ‘hearsay’. Customer stories also feed teams. Whether that customer is internal or external does not matter.

This creates a tangle of stories within teams, which often contradict each other. This creates confusion within the team and from there often ‘hassle and fuzzle’.

I’ll help you to unravel this tangle of stories. You’ll gain more insight into where the real bottlenecks of the team are. Moreover, the added value of each individual team member also comes to the fore.

This allows the team members to make their contributions to the team and to the organization as a whole from their strengths.

Every dragon guards a treasure…

… so does that ‘monster of a colleague’..

We often think (and talk 😉) very negatively about team members who seem to be against everybody and anything. They are really ‘dragons of colleagues’!

But…. Every good story contains a dragon. Something or someone that needs to be conquered. This makes the hero grow and continue to develop.
This also applies to teams and/or individual team members. They might behave like monsters and seem to be horrible as a colleague. But these ‘dragons’ are of great value to your company. Every dragon guards a treasure and so do these employees. Something or someone that is of great importance to the hero of the story.  Something or someone the hero can learn from.

If you lead and support them well, you’ll discover those treasures. Treasures that make employees feel challenged and continue to develop. So your organization grows with that.

The Dragon Journey helps your team and/or individual employees to become aware that they are the heroes of your organization and often also the dragons. Dragons that a team in particular or the organization as a whole can learn from. Dragons that take your organization further and make it grow.

Narrative coaching

You are the Hero of your own Story

Every story has a hero. The main character who determines the course of the story. In your own life story, you are by definition the hero. Even though  you may not always feel like a hero.

Maybe you feel totally out of balance. As if you are living someone else’s story, and not your own.
Maybe you don’t know your goals in life? You don’t know in what direction you should move in your life in general, in your career, or in your relationship.

Then narrative coaching might help. We’ll dive together in your live (or work) story and we unravel it. In narrative coaching we approach live as if it is a story. A story in which you are -by definition- the hero. After one or several sessions you’ll experience more freedom in the choices you make.

Being the hero of your own life story means that you have the steering wheel in your hand under all circumstances. This does not mean that you always have everything under control. But one way or the other you decide. You choose how your life journey goes.
